1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

Students will look at all of the information in a problem and use the information given as well as prior experiences to tackle new problems. Students should be able to see the connection between a variety of problem-solving tools such as graphs, tables, and equations, use those strategies to create an appropriate plan of attack. Students should also be able to analyze their solution to see if it makes sense.

2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

Students should be able to take real-world situations and translate them into more abstract symbols, such as identifying and independent/dependent variables and creating the building blocks for models. Students should also be able to reason through the quantities involved in a problem and understand the relationship between those quantities instead of simply "plugging in the right numbers."
