Speaking and Listening

I liked seeing some of New Tech's philosophy reflected in the common core standards. Helping students learn to present information appropriately, to engage an audience, to gear their presentations toward specific audiences and to use presentation aids are all strategies we are currently using. Switching over to the CCS should fit right in!

It's also nice to see Speaking and Listening finally addressed as something not just "good to teach," but "necessary to teach." I'm thrilled when my kids can analyze Kafka, but if they can't articulate themselves, that's bound to have long-term consequences.

As a foreign language teacher I know the necessity of students to build mastery or acquire proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
